The Octarine Accord is a production company that believes prioritizing our people means we create greatness with every project. Our mission is to: transform the way audiences and artists think about live theatre, grow speculative fiction storytelling in live performance, become evangelists for reckless kindness, and normalize healthy artistic practices.
“It was octarine, the colour of magic. It was alive and glowing and vibrant and it was the undisputed pigment of the imagination, because wherever it appeared it was a sign that mere matter was a servant of the powers of the magical mind. It was enchantment itself.” - Terry Pratchett
The Octarine Accord was first conceived by founder Andrew Roblyer (they/he/any) in the fall of 2021 as they considered how to continue to follow their passion for theatre in a post-COVID 19 world amidst the important work of movements like Black Lives Matter, Me Too, and We See You White American Theatre. Born out of Andrew's core artistic tenet "People over projects. Period.." kindness became a central tenet of the vision, along with a desire to augment the amazing theatrical work being done in Houston already. Drawing on their lifelong passion for speculative fiction (which includes sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and similar genres) that already represented the majority of their theatre work over the past decade, along with Andrew's experience that limitations bring creativity, The Octarine Accord was formally launched in fall 2022 with Uncle Eb, an alternative universe sequel to A Christmas Carol following a grown-up Tiny Tim.
The company was further formalized in Spring 2023 when Andrew was awarded a grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance to produce The Honeycomb Trilogy. Moving forward, the company plans to present speculative fiction work itself and in collaboration with other Houston artists and organizations, maintaining a focus on non-hierarchical, anti-racist, and healthy, inclusive rehearsal and production practices.
