The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston is a non-profit, all-volunteer company dedicated since 1952 to preserving and sharing the delightful legacy of Gilbert and Sullivan's wonderful operas. As an internationally award-winning stalwart of the arts community, our Society is proudest of showcasing young talent for Houston audiences, as well as awarding more than 100 scholarships to vocal performance and theatre tech students over the years.
Each year, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston awards a $1600 scholarship to a promising vocal student attending a college or university in the Houston area, or to a student from the Houston area attending a college or university elsewhere. High school seniors entering college in the fall are also eligible. This scholarship money is provided to the Society through a grant from the Lillian Kaiser Lewis Foundation, and is intended for a student majoring in vocal performance. When financially able, the Society may award an additional scholarship of lesser value to a second, strongly qualified candidate.
A technical internship of $1600 is offered to students of theatre, giving them experience in the workings and production of a show.
At this concert, former scholarship winners will perform alongside Society favorites.
