APERIO, Music of the Americas makes its premiere performance at the MATCH with Exotic Blooms – Chamber Music from Latin America. Exploring vibrant chamber works from Peru, Argentina, Brazil, and Cuba, this program celebrates the coming together of folkloric and classical influences in Latin American contemporary music.
Alberto Ginastera’s 'Pampeana No. 2' for cello and piano conjures visions of the high plains of Argentina, featuring vibrant sonorities, evocative melodies, and a reverence for folk dance. Similarly, Gabriela Lena Frank’s 'Sueños de Chambi' for violin and piano portrays the celebratory and reverential traditions of Peru’s indigenous cultures. Works cast in a more classical vein, but imbued with familiar and accessible popular styles by Radamés Gnattali, Breno Blauth, and Jose Lezcano display the rich combination of regional music with traditions imported from the old world.
