About the Anubhava Dance Company:

Do you remember the first time you laughed unstoppably? Cried over a silly misunderstanding? Felt enraged by a social injustice? At Anubhava, we aim to capture, explore, and analyze the myriad of uniquely human emotions through the mediums of Indian classical dance and music. The Anubhava Dance Company, founded by Dr. Shriya Srinivasan and Joshua George in 2015, comprises a vibrant group of second-generation Indian-American, award-winning artists. The company's repertoire ranges from traditional works exploring the depth of Bharatanatyam to modern thematic works expanding the horizons of the Indian-classical arts. Since its inception, the company has staged over 3 evening length productions and 6 new works with original concepts, music, and choreography.

The company premiered at the prestigious Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana Festival, receiving critical acclaim. Anubhava has since toured across the United States, impressing audiences, raising funds for charitable organizations through performances, and encouraging youth to continue pursuing the Indian classical arts - even with rigorous academic commitments.

In recent years, Shriya and Joshua have infused their training in science and medicine into their works, creating pieces that explore these intersections. The company recently developed an Immersive Haptics Platform to augment the sensory experience of dance. The technology enables audiences to feel intricate footwork during performances through a mobile application. This work will be featured on PBS NOVA’s Built World Series set to be aired in the Fall of 2024.

Anubhava’s work has been commissioned by the MIT Media Lab, Harvard ArtLab and has produced original creations for SEWA International, International Services Center and the American India Foundation.
