Operativo

Gypsy

A Musical Fable. Book by Arthur Laurents, Music by Jule Styne, Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Suggested by the Memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee

Operativo Houston tackles this historical work for the first time! After performing Ruthless the previous summer, we thought it to be appropriate to perform the work that inspired it! Come see loving stage Mama Rose navigate raising children, trying to give them the dream she never received. Everything's comin' up Rose(s) in this touching Broadway classic! Don't miss it!

Operativo Mentoring Program 2024

The long awaited finale of Operativo's 2023-2024 season, Gypsy, is a presentation of the Operativo Mentoring Program. Beginning back in 2018 with Into the Woods, Operativo is addressing the needs of school age kids, and adult amateur performers in the Houston area by providing performance opportunities to improve resumes and help those trying to launch a professional performing career. We do this by hiring industry professionals to perform alongside amateur artists to give our amateurs connections and lifelong friends needed to survive in the performing industry. Not only do we want our Mentoring Program alumni to develop their craft and move abroad, but if any artists decide to stay local to the Houston area, we want to foster a new attitude in the performing industry against people who want to establish themselves locally somewhere. Companies are losing budget and are losing the privileges of flying out artists, and the only way to solve that is to use professionals that are established as local!

Original production by David Merrick & Leland Hayward. Entire production originally directed and coreographed by Jerome Robbins. Gypsy is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC. www.concordtheatricals.com
